For this edition of our annual calendar, we have chosen to honor Gaza and its remarkable people. This celebration of life is long overdue. It comes at a significant moment in the ongoing Palestinian struggle for freedom, dignity, and justice. We wanted to move beyond the images we see every day on our screens to offer instead a perspective of culture, strength, and humanity.

To pay tribute to the people of Gaza, who so deserve our respect and esteem, we researched in archives rich with history and insight, including at the United Nations and the Matson collection held at the Library of Congress. We also sought out the brilliant work of photographers who lived and worked in Gaza, and we are deeply grateful to them for granting us access to their private collections. Thank you to Joss Dray; George Azar and Saro Nakashian, son of Hrant.

Amid the horrific events of the genocidal war on Gaza, marked by massive destruction and unfathomable loss of life, we have all scarcely found time to mourn, to learn the stories of the victims, and to understand them as individuals. The scale of the attacks has often rendered personal connections impossible. Through this calendar we invite you to pause, to look into the faces in these photos, to imagine the lives lived at the moment the shutter clicked, and to absorb the surrounding detail. Read the captions, sense the ambience, and imagine the scenes as if you were there. We hope this simple calendar will inspire a deeper connection with Gaza and its people—a genuine act of solidarity and a step toward greater understanding.

Selecting these photos was no easy task, and our choices cannot encompass the full breadth of Gaza’s story. Yet, as you browse these stunning images, remember that they represent fragments of a much larger narrative. Each one is a glimpse into the enduring spirit of a community which has roots stretching back thousands of years.

As you mark your days in 2025, let us stay hopeful for a better future, rooted in fairness and justice. May this collection of images from Gaza inspire you to reflect, to connect, and to be assured that justice will ultimately prevail.
